Fresh fears of a house price crash surfaced when Berkeley Group announced the surprise sale of about half its properties and a £1.4bn payback to investors. In the wake of a strategic review, the company is to wind down its traditional housebuilding business and focus on redeveloping brown field land. It will sell off about half its 26,000-odd plots.
