RAG, the German coal mining group, may sell its coal mining operations in the US, Australia and Venezuela as a possible alternative to a planned sale of its Steag power generation unit it announced earlier this year. Also for sale are the three plastics units of Rutgers, RAG's existing chemical business, which together accounted for 70 per cent of Rutgers' 2.4bn Euro sales last year.
