Listed UK water group Severn Trent PLC said it has no plan to sell its Biffa waste and landfill business. The company is however keeping strategy under review. Rumours have been circulating that the company has been evaluating a potential sale of Biffa, which became the biggest UK-owned waste management firm following its acquisition of Hales in 2003 and the purchase of UK Waste in 2000. It is thought that such a sale would allow the group to focus on its regulated water business. The group said Biffa, which together with the water business accounts for about 97% of group profits, had made steady progress during the period, with 8% growth in an otherwise flat market. Although Biffa UK lifted its PBIT, total Biffa PBIT was down 0.9% to GBP 43.5m.
