British Nuclear Group, the UK state-owned nuclear power company, is to be sold off in four parts according to trade and industry secretary Alistair Darling. The government initially planned to sell the business off in its entirity, but rejected a recent offer of £400m from a US firm. Instead, the company will be divided up into the Sellafied clean up contract, the management of the Magnox sites, a 33 per cent stake in AWE, and its Project Services consultancy. Serco, the UK support services company, has been named as a potential bidder, with interest also expected from the US and France.
