Bridgepoint Capital puts its Adams childrenswear business up for sale

Private equity group Bridgepoint Capital has reportedly hired PriceWaterhouseCoopers to conduct a strategic review of its Adams childrenswear business, with a view to putting the company up for sale.
The Times newspaper cited an estimated asking price of £50m for the business, which it says has struggled to compete in today's market where most supermarkets and discount stores such as Primark offer collections of children's clothing.
Originally established by Amy Adams in 1933, Adams now has around 300 stores in the UK and a further 120 overseas, retailing fashion and schoolwear for children aged up to 10. Bridgepoint Capital bought the business in 1999, backing an £87m management buy-out.
