Close Brothers considers divestments to fend off Cenkos takeover

Winterflood Securities, the stockbroking business owned by Close Brothers, could be put up for sale as a defence against a £1.4bn takeover bid for Close by Cenkos Securities. Winterflood, the largest market-maker of AIM-listed stocks, is throught to be worth at least £600m. Alternatively, Close Brothers may auction off its banking business, which the Cenkos bid values at £500m.
