4711, the historic perfume brand and creaters of the 'Eau de Cologne' frangrance, has been put up for sale. Owners Proctor & Gamble acquired the company when it took over the Wella hair care brand. German company Wella had bought 4711 in 1994. Proctor & Gamble cited 'strategic reasons' for the sale, which is estimated to have a pricetag of over £50m.
