The sale of Eggborough Power Station is to begin this week with investment bank Greenhill contacting potential suitors. The Yorkshire plant, owned by Brithish Energy, is expected to attract interest from both financial and trade bidders and could sell for under 50% of its headline price, due to a restructuring deal in 2002 which gave a number of bondholders the right to take control of the power station from 2010. German utility company RWE and UK-based Centrica are both tipped as potential buyers. The market value of Eggborough is estimated to be between £250m and £300m, however bondholders expect the sale to fetch up to £400m.
