Germany's largest utility company Eon has gained approval to go ahead with an acquisition of the UK's Powergen. The deal is said to be worth some £9.6bn. It may be the start of further expansion into the US for the company. Eon is also awaiting approval to buy a controlling stake in Ruhrgas, the largest European gas importer.
