GLAXOSMITHKLINE, the pharmaceuticals giant, has set aside £1 million to sweeten the drawn-out sale of its 500-employee manufacturing facility in Montrose. The money is earmarked for range of back-to-work initiatives for redundant staff. A deal to sell the plant to Akzo Nobel, the Dutch chemicals group, fell through at the end of March this year. Any buyer will be handed a long-term contract to make ingredients for eight GSK products which is enough to sustain 260 staff.
