HBOS to decide whether to make disposals
29/04/2008
HBOS, the UK-listed banking group, might decide to make disposals to boost its capital. According to analysts non-core operations could be disposed of, which would enable the group to focus on its mortgage and banking businesses in the UK.The group's insurance and investment subsidiary, Clerical Medical, could be put on the market, although a disposal of Australia-based BankWest may be more likely. BankWest makes only 5% of HBOS total profits. It is understood to be worth £2.5bn, if sold.
