HSBC to Reduce French Banking Business
11/02/2008
HSBC has decided to sell a large part of its French retail banking business, the move would mirror demands by a rebel investor that it reduce its presence in countries where it has little chance of gaining market leadership. HSBC is trying to find a buyer for roughly 300 of its French branch network, estimated to be worth about £2bn. This network of branches used to be part of the CCF group, which HSBC bought eight years ago.
