Apax Partners and Permira, the private equity groups, have been granted preferred bidder status by Inmarsat, raising hopes that the long-running auction for the UK satellite company could be drawing to a close. Apax and Permira are said to be wishing to hold on to the business for at least three to four years before bringing it to market.
