Johnson Service Group, the UK-listed cleaning and services group, is in discussions regarding a potential sale of its dry-cleaning business. The unit includes brands such as Sketchley, Johnsons and Jeeves. The brands previously accounted for 55% of Johnson's overall business but now represent only 25% of the total. The company said it had received a preliminary approach that had been made to Johnson Service after it published its full year result which corresponded with analysts' forecasts. The company recorded pre-tax profit of £15.7m from £342m revenues. The company had invested £62.2m in eight bolt-on buys last year, substantially boosting its business. It also reported growth through its other businesses which include corporate wear rental and apparel business. Numis Securities have estimated a sale value between £70m to £90m. A potential buyer is likely to be a private equity firm looking to realize value from the business's property assets. Johnson Service is likely to use proceeds from the sale to cut down its £34m pension deficit while the remaining would be used to finance debt and acquisitions.
