Wincanton is to acquire Lane Group Plc, the Bristol-based home delivery company, for up to £2m plus the assumption of £6m of debt. The acquisition will be financed from existing banking facilities. Lane employs 750 workers at 15 sites across the UK and has a fleet of 330 vehicles. Customers include Bosch, Electrolux, Homebase and Magnet. Wincanton announced the acquisition in conjunction with that of RDL Holdings, the provider of supply chain services to the building industry with 350 staff at 38 sites, for £22m. Graham McFaull, chief executive of Wincanton, commented: “Wincanton has a strong track record of growing both organically and through acquisition. These two businesses enable us to build further on our leading presence in the UK, enter new sectors and expand our service offering. We see continuing opportunities for growth, both organically and throughacquisition, across all our business areas, in both the UK and continental Europe.”
