London & Continental (LCR), the UK-based railway group, has been reclassified by the UK government as a public entity. LCR has announced that it is considering a break-up of the group. LCR said the ONS decision was not a surprise, and welcomed the decision. LCR's major shareholders include Bechtel, the US-listed engineering group, UBS, the listed Swiss investment bank, and National Express, the UK-listed coach company.
