Marks And Spencer's - Division Sale
01/05/2001
Brooks Brothers, the menswear chain being sold off as part of Marks and Spencer's restructuring is likely to have an asking price of $400m. Analysts believe that the chain, one of America's prestige brand names, is unlikely to attract a long list of bidders, given the uncertain US economic outlook. Meanwhile, the French department stores chain, Galeries Lafayette is considering making an offer for some of the 18 French stores earmarked for closure by M & S, and would even consider retaining the existing workforce.
