Hermes Private Equity has acquired the UK bingo operator Mayfair Gaming from Risk Capital Partners for an estimated £28 million. Hermes were advised by Deloitte Corporate Finance with debt facilities provided by the Royal Bank of Scotland. Risk Capital Partners, which is led by Channel 4 chairman Luke Johnson, was advised by Newco and Livingstone Guarantee and Pinsents. Mayfair Gaming operates eight bingo clubs across the UK – in Aberdeen, Newcastle, Pudsey, Bristol, Newark, Streatham and Brighton – and has 131,000 members. Hermes now plan to target locations with a local customer base more suited to a small operator. Mayfair Gaming recorded a turnover of £12m in 2005.
