Reports that Newsquest Media Group is up for sale have today been refuted by US parent company Gannett Company Inc. 

Gannett released the denial in response to rumours sparked by an article in the Sunday Express, which claimed that the company was likely to appoint Credit Suisse to review the business, and could sell it for around £1.5bn.

In a statement, Gannett said that there was “no truth” to the reports, and that “Newsquest is a valuable part of the Gannett company.”

Newsquest publishes around 300 UK newspapers, including the Scottish Herald and the Northern Echo.
