Novar, the conglomerate facing a possible bid from Melrose, is considering announcing a break-up of the group as one option for fending off a hostile takeover. This may be pursued as a means of generating quick value for shareholders. The company has three disparate and under-performing divisions: cheque printing, aluminium extrusions and electronic building systems.
