NTL has put its transmission unit up for sale. The debt-laden cable TV and telephony group has had an offer from the BBC for part of the unit - the satellite uploading division, but it is thought NTL will hold out for a sale of the whole unit. NTL's transmission business has a price tag of £1.6bn but so far the bidders appear unwilling to offer more than £1bn.
