Oilily 'up for sale'

Oilily, the Dutch retailer of upmarket women's and children's clothing, is thought to be up for sale for up to €50m according to a report in the Financial Times.

Oilily, named after founder William Olsthoorn's childhood nickname, sells its merchandise in 34 countries around the world, including in around 69 stores in the UK. The company also operates a number of exclusive Oilily stores, such as its Sloane Street shop in London, and revenue is estimated to be around €70m.

Olsthoorn founded the company in 1963 and now jointly owns the brand along with Dutch private equity firms ABN Amro and H2, who acquired their stakes in 2003.

The sale will be handled by NM Rothschild.
