SMG, the information and entertainment service provider, is to sell Pearl & Dean, its cinema advertising business, and Primesight, its outdoor advertising business. An offer for Pearl & Dean from Irish company UTV has already been turned down, but SMG are apparently still open to discussions with the company. Pearl & Dean generates a quarter of all cinema advertising revenues in the UK and Ireland. SMG's core operating profits were down 4% with sales down 2% for the period 30th December 2005 to 30th June 2006.
