Rentokil Initial confirmed investors' worst fears with a slump in profits and a warning of a likely deterioration in trading into next year as well. The services group, which has also earmarked parts of its linen and garments hygiene division in the UK and Germany for sale, said profits had fallen by 12% in the 10 months to October to just under £294m with margins under constant pressure.
