Resolution plc, the UK-listed administrator of closed life insurance funds, has acknowledged recent speculation over a possible merger or sale of the company and confirmed that it is in “very early discussions with various parties”. 

The company, which was formed in 2005 with the merger of Resolution Life and Britannic Group, has reportedly held discussions with a number other insurers, including Standard Life, Prudential, Legal and General and Friends Provident. 

Resolution's statement said it would be considering “acquisitions, business combinations, or a possible offer for the company”, adding that “there can be no certainty that any of these options under review will result in a transaction or any offer being made by or for the company.”

In September this year, Resolution acquired the closed life funds of Abbey for £3.6bn, and has been highly acquisitive of late in its efforts to increase assets under management. 

Analysts predict that a deal could take place within the next six to twelve months.
