ROYAL & SUN ALLIANCE has secretly appointed Goldman Sachs and Lehman Brothers to sell its UK life business, which is worth at least £600m. The two advisers have set a deadline of tomorrow for indicative bids to be sent in. It is thought several offers have already been made. However, at the same time RSA has asked the two investment banks to study how much capital could be released through a securitisation.
