The UK Competition commission has stated that WM Morrison would be the only bidder among the four supermarket operators vying for Safeway that would be able to promote competition nationwide. The Commission said it might force the potential acquirer of Safeway to divest stores in local areas where competition would be reduced prior to allowing a takeover.
