Oil giant Shell looks likely to spin off InterGen, its underperforming joint venture with Bechtel, in an effort to bring in some much-needed cash to fund vital upstream capital expenditure over the next few years. Analysts say the power company, which owns 20 power stations around the world (three in the UK), controls assets worth £3.3bn, which could be sold off either as a whole or in regional lots.
