Standard Life - Business Sale
05/03/2004
Standard Life has revealed plans to axe 100 jobs in Edinburgh with more job cuts expected to be announced in other parts of its UK business. These job cuts are believed to be unconnected to the company’s ongoing strategic review. The move is part of a broader shake-up of the company’s sales network which began last August, when Standard Life axed 200 posts from call centres and offices spread across the UK. Although no further information will be available on the strategic review until the company’s annual meeting on 6 April, many commentators believe it will inevitably lead to thousands of redundancies. The review is also widely expected to see Standard Life bring an end to its mutual status - either by listing on the stock exchange or by putting itself up for sale - although the company has repeatedly insisted that this is not necessarily a foregone conclusion.
