Tate & Lyle hints at sugar manufacturing business sell-off
05/11/2007
Tate & Lyle has hinted that it may consider selling its sugar manufacturing business, after releasing the following statement regarding takeover activity in 2010: "We are expecting consolidation in the industry post 2010. We expect to play a part in that. We are taking necessary steps to ensure our sugar business is optimally structured to take advantage of opportunities." A move to sell would break 150 years of tradition for the company, which now profits most from its food and industrial ingredients division in the US and sales of its Splenda sweetener.
