RDF Media is to acquire The Comedy Unit, the Glasgow-based TV production company with 20 staff, for up to £11m. The deal comprises an initial consideration of £6.5m, to be paid in cash and shares, and a further payment of up to £4.5m, subject to The Comedy Unit's performance for the period up to 31 January 2008. The Comedy Unit was established in 1995, and has produced shows such as Rab C Nesbitt and Still Game. The company also derives a significant proportion of its net profits from DVD sales and other rights exploitation. RDF is an AIM-listed television producer and content distributor, and chief executive David Frank said that the acquisition would both move the company into the comedy genre and enhance its presence in Scotland.
