Whitbread Leisure group is working on plans to make a £1bn bid for rival Travelodge. Travelodge is likely to be put up for sale by Permira in the second half of this year. Whitbread is expected to start selling some of its businesses, such as David Lloyd Leisure fitness clubs or its restaurant arm. However, it is expected to buy more businesses before it starts to sell parts of the business.
