Trinity Mirror may put national or regional titles up for sale
06/12/2006
Trinity Mirror could put some of its national or regional newspapers up for sale after a strategic review by NM Rothschild.

Rothschild's findings, which were revealed to the group on Monday, include the option to sell off individual titles such as the Daily Mirror, the Sunday People or the Racing Post. A further possibility would be to demerge the national newpaper arm from regional operations to form two separate companies.

Trinity Mirror's board, headed by chief executive Sly Bailey, will meet again next Wednesday to discuss the possible options and aims to present the results of the review the following day.

Rothschild are understood to have been open to offers for individual parts of the business in recent weeks, and are thought to have received a £550m bid from Marcus Evans for the Daily Mirror. Evans previously offered £800m for the paper in 2004, and sources believe that Trinity has dismissed his latest bid as too low.
