TVR administrators to "advertise the business for sale as a going concern"
29/12/2006
Blackpool Automotive, the company that manufactures TVR sports cars, is to be put up for sale after the administrators were called in during the run-up to Christmas.
In a statement, PKF (UK) LLP confirmed the decision, saying: "It is our intention to advertise the business for sale as a going concern and we are optimistic that a purchaser will be found in the New Year."
The company ran into trouble last April amid declining demand for the cars, when it temporarily laid off a quarter of its workforce. Since then the future of the company has been in doubt, and efforts to find new premises for the factory, both abroad and elsewhere in the North West, have failed.
Founded by Trevor Wilkinson in 1947, TVR is the UK's largest independent sports car maker and employs 250 people from its base in Bispham, Lancashire. It was bought by Russian businessman Nicolai Smolensky in 2004.
