Grampian, the largest supplier of meat and poultry to the UK's supermarkets is currently being bid for by two major foreign meat suppliers: Vion, the Dutch giant and Sadia, a Brazilian company. Grampian, which employs around 20,000 people, was pushed into a sale by HBOS, its banker after it became unable to deal with a mountain of debt. The sale could generate as much as £400 million.
