XL Airways in Crisis Talks
31/08/2008
The financial backers of XL Leisure Group are reportedly considering their financial options for the company. The specifics of the current funding arrangements provided by Barclays and Straumur of Iceland, are unknown, though it seems clear that Barclays are wanting to reduce their commitments as they pulled financing connected to fuel-hedging options in mid-August. They have also hired Kroll, the restructuring experts, as advisers. This has left XL, the third largest UK holiday operator encompassing XL Airways, XL.com, Freedom Flights Ltd*, Travel City Direct and Kosmar, in a precarious situation holding urgent talks with banks to try and resolve its financial crisis. The airline has already announced the cancellation of its entire Caribbean winter schedule.* Not associated with Freedom Flights (Newcastle) Ltd
