UK Businesses For Sale

Amec considers putting infrastructure business up for sale

Amec, the UK-based industrial services company, is considering the sale of all or part of its infrastructure arm in order to concentrate on its energy business.

The move, which comes as part of an ongoing strategic review, was confirmed by a company spokesperson, who said: "A sale of the infrastructure division is an option. We will have to wait until the review has been finalised to see the outcome."

The appointment of Samir Brikho this month as the company's new CEO has fuelled speculation of a sale, as Brikho comes from a strong energy background, including membership of the Group Executive Committee of ABB Ltd.

The infrastructure division's projects include PPP schools and hospitals, urban renewal and wind farms, and its clients span both the public and private sectors.

Amec recently sold its French operations, Amec SPIE for an estimated £295m. The group's net cash now averages between £140m and £150m.
