Anheuser-Busch rejects takeover bid from InBev
27/06/2008

The brewer, Anheuser-Busch, has rejected a £23.3bn takeover bid from InBev, the Belgian-Brazilian brewer.

The formal rejection of InBev's takeover offer came shortly after InBev said it was preparing to bypass the entire board of Anheuser-Busch. InBev's reason reportedly being that the board were trying to block the acquisition.

Anheuser-Busch believe that the offer undervalued the business. They are, however, open to receiving proposals that would provide full value to its shareholders.

InBev is the world's second largest brewer, and owns brands such as Stella Artois and Leffe.

If the takeover were to be successful it would effectively replace SAB Miller's current status as largest brewer.

Anheuser-Busch, established in 1876, is a US-based brewer.Its 100 brands include Budweiser, Beck's, Boddingtons and Grolsch.
