The chief executive of Blacks Leisure, Neil Gillis, said he was looking at "all options" following a large fall in sales and the possibility of further losses. Blacks Leisure has suffered as consumers have reined in discretionary spending. The damp summer has also not helped the sale of camping and outdoor wear. Blacks Leisure also has faced stiff competition from the likes of Fat Face and White Stuff.
Analysts have said that even if Blacks Leisure Boardwear arm, which has suffered the most, was put on the market there would be little appetite for such a deal. Not helped by the banks reluctance to lend to the retail sector at the moment.
In the year to March 1st, the boardware division made a loss of £3.2m whereas the whole group made a profit of £2.3m Boardware sales were £66.6m compared to £297m sales for the group as a whole.
