Local information: Angus, Scotland
Bordering Aberdeenshire, Angus is one of Scotland’s 32 local government council areas. It also shares borders with Perth and Kinross and Dundee City. The area is represented at the Scottish parliament both by the Angus and the North Tayside Holyrood constituencies.
Angus is of course famous for its cattle industry, having lent its name to a nationwide chain of steakhouses.
In 1996, Angus was established as a unitary authority. Its geography is divided into three areas: the north and west regions are mountainous and are home to the five Angus Glens. The south and east are coastal and the topography consists of rolling hills. The city of Dundee is located on the coast. In between the mountainous and coastal areas lies Strathmore, which is nicknamed the Great Valley for its fertile land, which is used for growing potatoes and rearing the aforementioned cattle.
Until 1928, Angus was known officially as Forfarshire.
