Local information: Cornwall, South West

Cornwall is located at the south west tip of England, bordering only one other county (Devon), and otherwise being surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and the English Channel. The county became a unitary authority in 2009, when its former six districts were scrapped in favour of a centralised council based in Truro.

Cornwall is the homeland of the Cornish people and diaspora, and many residents and scholars consider it one of the six Celtic nations. Residents proudly maintain their own history, language and culture, and a self-government movement seeks greater autonomy within the UK.

Since the decline of its tin-mining industry, which had flourished on and off since Roman times, along with fishing and agriculture, the county relies heavily on tourism, which makes up around a quarter of the economy. There is also now a significant creative industry in Cornwall, encompassing areas like graphic design, product design, web design, packaging design, architecture and photography.
