Alcontrol, the UK-based laboratory testing services group, may go on the market.
Owner Candover, a buyout group, has been discussing strategic options for the business with investment bank Credit Suisse. The bank has not been appointed to sell the business yet, however.
Candover purchased Alcontrol from private equity firm Bridgepoint in a contested auction four years ago.
It is thought that Alcontrol is worth between £220m and £300m. The UK laboratories have a turnover of £31m.
Alcontrol focuses on testing in the food, asbestos and environmental services sectors.
Alcontrol's clients include utilities, regulatory authorities, water authorities, government bodies, engineering companies, food manufacturers and oil companies.
