| UK Businesses For SaleCod farming business slips into administration
07/03/2008
Three years after its launch, the Shetland-based organic cod farming business, No Catch, has fallen into administration.
The parent company of No Catch, Johnson Seafarms, is in financial crisis and its future is uncertain. Last month, the company was placed in administration and its directors were sacked after generating debts of £40m in about two years. Several companies have expressed interest in buying the business. However the administrators, Grant Thornton, believe it could also be broken up and the No Catch brand name sold off. Daniel Smith, of Grant Thornton, thinks the cod farming could continue. Roughly 3,000 tonnes of mature cod will be ready to sell this year, which will be worth £12m to £14m. Major supermarkets including Sainsbury's, Tesco and Carrefour in France all stock the organic cod range. |
