| UK Businesses For SaleMk One falls into administration three weeks after being bought
22/05/2008
MK One, the discount fashion chain, has fallen into administration less than a month after being sold to Hilco, the retail recovery specialist.
Deloitte has once again been hired to find a buyer. It was reported in April that the administrator had been appointed to manage the sale process for Baugur. Baugur previously owned the fashion chain for four years. It is thought that hundreds of jobs could be lost out of the 2,500 strong workforce at MK One. 62 stores may have to close, leaving 110 stores open across the UK. It is recognised by Deloitte that MK One has a healthy customer base and so they are keeping the stores open while they search for a buyer. It is understood that some suppliers are still waiting for payment for deliveries during December and they have built up £38m of losses while it was owned by Baugur. Mk One has been facing stiff competition from much bigger businesses such as New Look and Primark. Other retail chains that have already gone into administration this year include, Ethel Austin, Select Retail, Elvi and Dolcis. |
