Cable & Wireless to announce demerger, possible sale

Cable & Wireless, BT's main rival in the business telecoms market, is expected to announce a full demerger of its UK and international operations in the next six months, according to reports. The two operations were split into self-contained units last year in order to improve performance, and it is expected to be announced that the businesses are on track. A sale of either, or both parts of the group is thought likely to attract private equity interest.
