French energy group EDF are to put four sites, for building new reactors, on the market after the £12.5bn purchase of British Energy.
The sites, which are likely to be put up for sale, include Dungeness in Kent, Heysham in Lancashire, Bradwell in Essex and Wylfa on Anglesey.
Interested parties are thought to include RWE and Eon of Germany, Vattenfall of Sweden and Iberdrola of Spain.
The buyers of the sites are likely to use technology from Westinghouse, the nuclear engineering company sold by the British government to Toshiba of Japan.
EDF requires just two sites, Hinkley Point in Somerset and Sizewell in Suffolk, to build four of its European pressurised reactors, designed by Areva of France.
Centrica, the company behind British Gas, are in discussions with EDF about taking a 25 per cent stake in the new holding company for British Energy, after the acquisition is completed.
