TalkTalk owner considers options
Mon, 17 Nov 2008

The founder of Carphone Warehouse, Charles Dunstone, is understood to be reviewing the future of his broadband internet division, TalkTalk.

A disposal of TalkTalk would create more value for shareholders. It has been speculated that Talk Talk could sell for £900m if it was separately listed from its owner company.

If a sale of the internet business does occur, it will be likely to take place next year, when the market conditions may become more stable.

It is rumoured that Vodafone, which has almost 4 million broadband customers across Europe, could be interested in the division.

TalkTalk was founded in 2003. With 2.8 million customers, it is the UK's third largest broadband provider.

The disposal of TalkTalk would enable Carphone Warehouse to focus on its chain of high-street stores, as well as its recent tie-up with the US retailer Best Buy.

The two companies have plans to open 100 out-of-town superstores together in the UK, which would compete with retailers such as Comet and Currys, according to reports.
