Two Worcestershire-based hotels have been placed on the market after its corporate owner entered administrative receivership.
The administrators at BDO Stoy Hayward are continuing to trade Impney Group Limited and aim to sell its hotel assets as going concerns, while preserving as many jobs as possible. 45 of the 128 employees have already been made redundant.
The Chateau Impney, which is located on the outskirts of Droitwich Spa, was built in 1875 by salt miner entrepreneur John Corbett as a present for his French wife.
The constructed site included a classic French renaissance-style mansion, 144 acres of parkland with lakes, waterfalls and over 3,000 varieties of trees. It took three thousand men to build it.
The other hotel, the Raven, dates back to the 16th Century, has 72 bedrooms and is located in the centre of the same town.
A price tag of £33.5m was placed on the hotels two years ago; the price of the
hotels for sale has since been reduced. It is thought that the original asking price was higher than its true market price and is expected to come down again.
The hotelier's last recorded turnover for the year ending 31 March 2007 was £3.07m.
The holding company Impney Holdings Limited, Impney Hotels (Chateau) Limited, Impney Hotels (Raven) Limited, and Impney Hotels Group Services Limited also went into administration at the same time.
These operations include a second hotelier, the management services, and management of real estate.
