UK Businesses For SaleOwners of Alliance Boots consider sale

The co-owner of Nottingham-based Alliance Boots, Stefano Pessina, may consider selling the UK-based pharmaceutical wholesaler and retail chemists business.
Pessina purchased Alliance Boots jointly with the buyout group Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR) for £11.1bn in 2007. It is the intention of the owners to find out whether the manufacturing business can operate as a stand-alone. A valuation for the manufacturing business has not yet been disclosed. Alliance Boots might consider deals involving wholesalers. Alliance Boots already has a £41m Chinese joint venture, according to reports. The company would also consider deals in Latin America, Asia and India. Alliance Boots was created in July 2006 through the merger of Alliance UniChem Plc and Boots Group PLC. The Alliance UniChem Group was formed in 1997. Boots, the family-run business, was established in 1849, selling herbal remedies to the public.
