Sun Capital to rescue struggling furniture retailer

Sun Capital, private equity group and the former owner of van maker LDV, is finalising a rescue takeover of the struggling UK-based furniture chain, SCS Upholstery. The deal is expected to be announced shortly.

Sun Capital Partners has been in discussions with SCS and has a period of exclusivity that is due to run out today.

If the two companies do not come to an agreement by the deadline, other interested parties will be able to come forward.

Any agreement that is made requires the approval of Barclays, which provides the credit facilities that SCS customers use to finance their purchases.

If a rescue deal can’t be made, SCS could go into administration. The furniture retailer has more than 100 UK stores and 1,500 employees.

Sun Capital Partners is an American private-equity firm with about £5 billion under management. The company specialises in investments in underperforming companies.
